Surely this is the highest level of WALLY WOOD in any of this 1966 series. "The Bitter Taste of Defeat" is Part 1 of 3 based upon Avengers #21 & 22, Oct & Nov 1965 by Stan Lee, Don Heck & wondrous WALLY WOOD! Other than his award-winning Alka Seltzer “Stomachs Get Even At Night” commercial, and his influence on Bakshi’s Wizards, this is likely the highest level of Wood content in an animated feature. If only they had adapted his masterpiece… Daredevil - Sub Mariner story from DD #7!!!!!
The Captain America head at 1:16 in this promo clip from the original Marvel Superheroes cartoons of the 1960s is by Don Heck & WALLY WOOD! Though ultra-simple, these first-ever Marvel cartoons have a lot of charm as they often (to save money) cribbed art from the actual comics. The Heck-Wood Cap head is from the last page of Avengers 22.
Does Marvel have any original art scans from Fantastic Four #1 or 2? The earliest FF art I've seen in the wild are a few pages from FF #3.
The earliest pages of FF art I’ve ever seen are from issue #1. There was a rumor that, when the origin of the Fantastic Four was reprinted in the first Annual, the originals from issue #1 were used to reprint it—and gone over by Sol Brodsky to update the look of the Human Torch and the Thing.
