A number of Gene Colan’s border notes to Stan remain:
SUBTERRANEANS
(I. MAN) - I’M THROUGH (words obscured) MOLE MAN CAN USE THE DIGGER FOR ALL I CARE.
MEANWHILE ON THE SURFACE, BATHYSCAPHE IS ABOUT TO BE LOWERED RIGHT OVER THE SPOT WHERE (word obscured) PLANT HAD BEEN
THE POLICE WITH CREW (word obscured) THREE HIGHLY TRAINED SPECIALISTS WOULD PERHAPS BE ABLE TO FIND STARK - I. MAN, AND PEPPER
I. MAN - URGES MOLE TO START THE MACHINE - INSULTING HIM PERHAPS - BY SAYING HE’S TOO STUPID TO BE ABLE TO WORK IT.
You can also see on the original that Stan had Sol Brodsky cut out and swap panels 4 and 5, which had originally been drawn in the other order.
