Here are both Jack Kirby’s uninked pencils and the final inked page by George Roussos (working under the pen name of George Bell) for a page from the Thor story in JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #101.
At the bottom of the inked page, there’s a border note by Stan:
MINING ROBOT CAN MAKE ORE INTO POWDER
A page from the Thor story in JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #124, focusing on Hercules.Art is by Jack Kirby and Vince Colletta. Enough of the pencils are still apparent that you can make out a few places where Colletta simplified what Kirby had done.
A few of Jack Kirby’s border notes still remain:
IT’S HERCULES IN COMBAT WITH ATLAS AND ZEUS BREAKS IT UP.
ZEUS SAYS ENOUGH OF THIS
There’s also a note, likely written in by production man Sol Brodsky, to colorist Stan Goldberg:
STAN G: ZEUS—RED HAIR AND BEARD.
Splash page to the Thor story in JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #115 by Jack Kirby and Frank Giacoia (using the pseudonym Frankie Ray.)
Splash page to the Thor story from JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #110 by Jack Kirby and Chic Stone.
Splash page from the Thor story in JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #106 by Jack Kirby and Chic Stone.
Splash page from the Thor story in JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #113 by Jack Kirby and Chic Stone. A Stan Lee note at the top reads:
KEEP CHIC STONE BUSY
presumably because Stan thinks that this will be a difficult splash image to execute.
On this page from an early Thor story from JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #88, Stan had the fifth panel completely redrawn to better illustrate Thor and Loki’s journey to Asgard—one of the first times this had been visualized in the series. This scan shows Jack Kirby and Dick Ayers’ original panel, which had been pasted over.
From an episode of the television series NAKED CITY. You can see both AMAZING FANTASY #15 featuring the first appearance of Spider-Man and JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #83 containing the first appearance of Thor displayed on the newsstand in the background.
Last page of the very first Thor story illustrated by Jack Kirby and Joe Sinnott, from JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #83. Note the original text in the last panel, which was revised for the printed comic.
