From TALES TO ASTONISH #40, here’s the opening splash page to the Ant-Man story by Jack Kirby and Sol Brodsky. I wonder if the tip of that title burst was cut off in the final printing, as it is here. Also, looking at it up close, you can see the original hand-lettering sketched onto the boards indicating that Dick Ayers was originally going to be inking this story.
Another very early FANTASTIC FOUR page, from issue #3, by Jack Kirby and Sol Brodsky. It includes the first diagram of the FF’s Baxter Building headquarters.
Here’s a page from DAREDEVIL #1 by Bill Everett, with uncredited finish-up help from Steve Ditko and Sol Brodsky. Everett was so late with delivering this first issue that it not only had to be rescheduled (and finished up by other people), but an entirely different Marvel series may have been created as a result!
I’ve got a ton of page scans from FANTASTIC FOUR, but this is the earliest one, the splash page to issue #3, which would have been penciled in 1961, and saw print in 1962. Sol Brodsky was the inker.
The note at the bottom, written in non-reproducion blue pencil, is from the letterer:
WHEW! VERY HEAVY PAGE OF LETTERING FOR A FIRST PAGE, STAN!!
